About Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs

The Department of Provincial and Local-Level Government Affairs (DPLGA) is a cornerstone of Papua New Guinea’s decentralized governance system, serving as the bridge between the national government and grassroots communities across diverse provinces and districts. Tasked with empowering provincial and local-level governments, DPLGA ensures that services, resources, and development reach the people who need them the most. The Department is committed to fostering effective governance and enhancing the quality of service delivery across all provinces and local communities in Papua New Guinea. By working collaboratively with provincial administrations and local governments, DPLGA aims to strengthen community development initiatives and build resilient systems of governance that prioritize the needs of the people. Through various programs and initiatives, such as the Local Governance Capacity Building Initiative and the Provincial Infrastructure Development Fund, DPLGA continues to support sustainable development and empower local leaders and communities to take charge of their progress.
